Video shows Colorado trooper jump off bridge to avoid being struck by speeding vehicle

A Colorado State Patrol trooper suffered serious injuries when he jumped off the side of a bridge to avoid being struck by a suspected drunk driver over the weekend. And the scary moment was caught on video.

The incident took place about 3:45 a.m local time on Saturday on Interstate 270 in Adams County.

Dash camera video obtained by USA TODAY shows Trooper Kevin Bagley avoid a collision from the speeding car by leaping over the bridge which led to a 30-foot fall to a river below.

Troopers could not immediately be reached by USA TODAY on Wednesday morning.

2 speeding cars

Troopers told News Channel 8 they initially responded to the highway for a report of a property damage crash. While on scene, a Jeep moving at a high speed struck the side of a parked, unoccupied police cruiser.

About 45 minutes later, an unrelated vehicle, also speeding, ran over “multiple traffic cones in the right lane that were positioned to warn oncoming traffic,” and struck a second unoccupied police vehicle called to assist, the outlet reported.

Trooper and driver both taken to hospital

Police said the trooper was transported to a hospital to be treated for serious but non life-threatening injuries, the outlet said.

“He (Bagley) was discharged on Sunday, July 23, and will begin his long recovery at home,” the CSP told local media.

Trooper identified the driver of the vehicle as Cesar Ayala Manriquez, who was also taken to a hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries. According to local reports, he faces charges including vehicular assault while driving under the influence., troopers said.
